A LITTLE ABOUT OUR YOUTH MENTORS

David Raygoza- I first became certified in 1998 and upgraded to a grade 7 in 2000. I have been working with the Youth Mentor Program for the past 2 years. I really enjoy working with new and upcoming referees, young and experienced, with their techniques and confidence. I have been active in the soccer community for quite a while now. I started out as a referee in the local recreational leagues and joined San Gabriel back when it was first getting started. I have played soccer since I was a little kid, but nothing gives you the full understanding of the game like being a referee. I currently play and referee indoor soccer. I believe that it is a great way to continue learning and apply laws of the game in different situations.

Lisa Contreras- I originally started refereeing in 1993 when Buzz and Fran were in charge of the WC recreational league and have been refereeing ever since, minus a 2-3 year hiatus while I was busy getting my doctrine for veterinary medicine. I recently recertified in 2005 when I was done with my schooling. Currently I am helping out with the youth mentoring program and am having a blast. I really enjoy seeing the potential for great referees out there with our new and upcoming members. Remember that even though the program is termed youth it is NOT just for the kids. It is for new members of ALL ages that would like to expand on their current knowledge and techniques. I strongly recommend that you come out and join us when we have fields set aside for mentoring. It is a great program that benefits everyone. I continue to learn while I am out there with you guys. Some of the questions you ask are great and I wish all of our members could benefit from the Q&As that we have out there.
